Free SightSpeed looks to go mano a mano with Skype
[jkOnTheRun] Largely free, Skype with a web cam can provide decent quality video calls but another free program (basic version) is growing in popularity by allowing very high quality video calls that easily outshine Skype. SightSpeed 5.0 is a beta program but PC Magazine found it a decent alternative to Skype due to the superior video coupled with tight audio synchronization.

3 reasons why Microsoft should buy eBay
[Thatedeguy] I touched upon it a little at SuperGeekBlog last week when it broke, but there have been rumors flying around lately about Microsoft being in talks with eBay about a potential buyout. While Im sure that there are plenty of people out there that can think of why this shouldnt happen, I see 3 reasons why it would make sense for Microsoft. Paypal. Microsofts Passport services went over like a lead balloon. Integrating paypal payments and ebay feedback into the passport service could lend the added value to Passport to make it worth while to use. Also, the ability to have your Passport/eBay feedback universally available at any website could add a lot of usage to the system.

[Download Squad] So last week when I posted Plaxo dials the phone for you, I didn't realize that the JAJAH-powered service is actually available Plaxo-free, in the form of a web service or Firefox extension. In case you missed the Plaxo post, what JAJAH does when you enter a friend's telephone number is call your phone, then when you pick up, dial their phone number.

Removal of Live Help from our site and components
[Latest News from Phil Taylor] I write to let you know that we have taken the decision to remove the live chat/help buttons from our website and components with effect from 15 June 2006. The reasons for this are many, including, but not limited to: The general acceptance of Skype as a method of obtaining both Live Help and presales support. The abusive emails from customers saying that the live help buttons (javascript) takes too long too load, or distracts them while working inside our components.

Microsoft to Buy eBay? Bold... But Futile
[Internet Outsider] It makes sense that MSFT would come to EBAY to get closer, but a full-on merger doesn't sound necessary. MSFT could buy into EBAY with a few $billion and combine it with some kind of tight agreement for EBAY to do what they need to help MSN and/or "shit on" GOOG.

Paypal Meets Skype
[ Alec Saunders .LOG -- An explosive mix of VoIP, Technology, Wine, and Politics] I’ve long been a fan of the idea that you should be able to conduct a transaction, and exchange money, while in a conversation. Howard and I discussed this extensively in late 2003 as part of the process we went through building the iotum business plan. Eventually we abandoned the idea, concluding that Paypal was better positioned to do it than we were. Well, 2.5 years later, the latest iteration of the Skype / Paypal roadmap has this very idea! Check out Bill Campbell’s post on Skype Journal for more details.
